Role

Art Direction / UX & UI design

In 2013, while working at Tieto, I was assigned as a UI consultant to design the visual layout for Kesko.fi

The website was renewed both technically (built on Microsoft’s platform) and visually, and I led the visual and UI design work end-to-end. In addition to designing the interface, I was responsible for creating Kesko’s brand-aligned visual language for the site and ensuring its consistency across all page types and components. I directed the design work in collaboration with other designers, guiding the visual direction, structure, and design decisions throughout the project.

At that time, responsive design and mobile-first thinking were not yet widely established, and many of today’s design conventions did not exist. This meant that much of the foundational visual and interaction design had to be defined from scratch, from grid systems and typography to navigation models and scalable UI patterns.

The client was extremely satisfied with the result, and one testament to the strength and clarity of the design is that the site’s implementation has remained largely unchanged to this day. In the fast-moving digital world, where technology and visual solutions typically age quickly, this level of longevity is exceptionally rare.

Although the site itself has not been redesigned, Kesko has since undergone at least one brand update, which is why the original 2013 layouts no longer fully match the current visual identity.
